Description

We are expecting a long, hot and dry summer and with an increasing demand on our water supply! We need to find ways to adapt our gardens to better suit our changing climate. Horticulturalist, Tam Andersen, of Prairie Gardens, has been growing 25 acres of vegetables, orchards and strawberries on their Sturgeon County farm and can offer you tips on drought proofing your orchard, veggie gardens and growing water wise plants for hanging baskets and planters.

In this 1 hour session you will learn:

  • When to water, and how much water plants really need
  • What types of drought-tolerant plants thrive in a dry year
  • What plants to include in your orchard to be able to grow your own fruit
  • Ways to optimize irrigation without overwatering

This workshop will provide ideas and tips to conserve and make the most of the water you use in the garden and to choose plants and practices that work with and not against the dry summer that is forecast for this growing season.

This workshop includes a farm-to-table light lunch or supper ($15 value) and a choice of take-home mini drought-proof succulent planter or drought-tolerant perennial ($15 value).
