“Junior Farmer” Guided Field Trip
DATES AND TIMES: We are booking our “Junior Farmer” program now. Guided tours take a full 1½ hours or a full day. We are booking for 9:30 am, 11:30 am or 12:00 pm tours. Please check with your bus company about loading and driving times, as you will want to be prompt in order not miss a moment of this program. Please call to discuss your tour itinerary.
COST AND CONFIRMATION:The cost is $12.00 (plus GST) per person, full day tour $17.50 (plus GST). Teachers, teacher’s aids and our required ratio of parent helpers (1 adult per 5 students) are Free. Additional parents and siblings are $11.00 per person (plus GST) (Toddlers under 2 are always free –with min booking fee of $200.00). Add on! Make your own “Magical Herb Pouch” $7/ per person or Gem Mining Cost: $5 per person.
Dear Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 1-3 Teachers: This is a 1.5 hour GUIDED TOUR
or Upgrade to a Full Day program! To cultivate curiosity and wonder, we engage children’s exploration of the farm fostering joyful relationships between children and their immediate world. We immerse students in local heritage and sustainable farm culture with the first-hand experiences of a real working farm. The trip begins on the bus with a welcome and program introduction, followed by safety instructions for the wagon ride. Please ensure children and volunteers are dressed appropriately for fall weather! Winter boots, scarves, hats, mittens and warm jackets are best if cold. As this is a rural working farm, please prepare children for the ‘outhouse’ experience.

Children will discover who we are, who lives here, what’s happening on the farm and how we are all connected with our local food system. They will observe patterns and make observations, sort and classify and begin to grasp how we are all interdependent no matter where we live. We have designed learning opportunities to connect to the season to make learning rich and meaningful to children.
THE PUPPET SHOW& SNACK TIME: The children will love the puppet show- where lasting relationships grow with the help of Prairie Gardens’ characters! All are invited to enjoy a Halloween Cookie. Please advise children to bring a beverage. The children will have this time to enjoy their cookie while sitting in the cozy warm greenhouse on their straw bale seats.
TAKE HOME: You will take home some great follow-up activity ideas for your classroom! Each student will take home a mini pumpkin, some fall “scavenger hunt” finds & a Pumpkin Festival downloadable coupon - a $5 Off Family Admission coupon to our Haunted Pumpkin Festival (open each weekend through October). Extra pumpkins for parents & siblings are $1.50 each. Please Order in advance.
LUNCH AREA & FOOD OPTIONS:BYO Lunch to eat at a Public Outdoor Picnic Areas (FREE). We offer a private lunch seating area for $35 (Optional) Lunch Options:
- BBQ all beef hot dog, drink & chips for $7
- Farmers lunch Potato Boat- Our own famous dill & garlic roasted farm potato; sour cream on side $5
- Four slices Grilled Farmer Sausage (80%beef & 20% pork) locally made Add $2
- Pumpkin Pie & Foothills Ice Cream Cones are available ($3-$5). Please indicate if you will require a lunch area for your group at booking time. All lunch orders must be pre-booked & pre-paid refunds given with one-week cancellation notice.
WHAT IF IT RAINS OR SNOWS? We will do as many outdoor activities as the weather will
allow. We have room inside to hold an alternate program including puppet show, petting farm, pumpkin
greenhouse, & scarecrow making indoors.
