Patten pears produce large fruit of excellent quality that have their best flavour one month after harvest (ready to pick at the end of September). However, fruit will keep for up to three months – much longer than many other pear varieties that can survive in the prairies. Fruit can be used for fresh eating (yum!), baking, and juicing. Also of note, Patten pears also make great pollinator for other pears. They themselves do require a second pear for cross-pollination.
