Introduced in 1883. A french lilac variety that is fast growing and is an early bloomer. There are long single panicles of purplish red blooms, that bloom in Spring. The blooms are above long, medium green, heart-shaped foliage. Because of their height they may a great shrub as a privacy screen, or part of an accent. Strongly fragrant.

Prefers soil that is moist and well-drained. Great to use as fresh flowers or dried. An interspecific hybrid with hyacinth genes.
