Full sun, Zone 4
Lavandula ang. ‘Munstead’
Pot size 3/4″
An English lavender, Munstead is known for its compact growth habit, fragrant blossoms, and showy colour even when dried. It’s one of the hardier lavenders; however, it’s hardiness in Alberta is somewhat hit-or-miss.
Lavenders do best in well-drained landscapes (particuarlily on slopes) that have full sun exposure. Chances of overwintering are higher in protected areas, such as mature Edmonton neighborhoods. To protect plants over the winter, you should cover with 6″ of straw in the fall and then remove in the spring once the plants begin to grow (typically early to mid May, depending on weather).
Mature Size: Height 12-18″ & Spread 24-36″
