A white-flowering columnar crabapple, Rosthern is ideal as a privacy screen or as a windbreak given its hardiness. Also works well in smaller spaces given its upright and columnar nature. Blossoms are profuse are beautifully fragrant in the spring. Foliage is green, turning yellow in the fall. Fruit is dark red and hangs on to the tree well into the fall.

Fruit is generally considered ornamental, but can be made into tasty jellies. Excellent pollinator for other apple varieties, especially other columnar varieties like TreasuRed.
