This is a clump-forming perennial that forms basal mounds. This is a sturdy perennial, easy to grow, and requires little maintenance. It will make a spectacular addition to your beds, borders, rock gardens, woodland gardens, used as a ground-cover, or in a container. The Palace Purple is one of the most widely planted Coral Bells. The leaves of this plant are large, star-shaped, and range from deep olive green to purplish-bronze to brilliant deep purple. The undersides of the leaves are a metallic amethyst shade. During late spring to midsummer, panicles of bell-shaped, creamy-white, and small sized flowers will bloom on dark red slender stems rising above its foliage.
This is a relatively low maintenance plant, and is a good choice for attracting butterflies to your yard. This plant will get up to 8 to 12 inches tall with a spread of 16 inches. It is easy to grow. It is relatively pest and disease free. It performs best in part shade, in rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils. It will also thrive in the dry shade, once established.
