Lonicera caerulea var. kamtschaitca ‘Wojtek’
Pot size #1
This particular variety of honeyberry, or haskap, grows on an upright to rounded, deciduous shrub with foliage that is a greyish-green in color, lightly fragrant, and ovate to lance-shaped. In the Spring there will be pale yellow flowers that will become edible cylindrical, bluish-black berries that are ready to harvest in the Summer. This is an early variety, high in yield, high frost resistance, high disease resistance, and grows haskaps that are mainly used for processing as the berries are large sized, sour to sweet, juicy, and very tasty.
This variety originated from Poland. A pollinator that is recommended for the Wotjek is either the Zojka or Duet. Each berry can be almost 3 cm long which-comparing to other Haskap berries- makes them giants. Wojtek berries are ready to be harvested on the cusp of May and June. Hand picking is recommended but it can also be done mechanically. The fruit is excellent simply eaten fresh- its taste is so distinctive. But it will be just as good turned into preserves and desserts- both the traditional and more unconventional.
The haskap plant is tolerant of all soil types. Normally will have fruits in the first year. Will grow to heights of 100 to 150 cm.
