Description
Full sun, Zone 3
Prunus mandschurica
Pot size #5, #7, #10
A great pollinator for other apricot cultivars. An extremely cold hardy seedling strain. Produces fruit that get to be about 3 – 4 cm and are golden yellow in color. The apricots are freestone, the flesh is very sweet, and the skin has minimal acidity. Great for eating fresh, used in everyday cooking, and preserves. Like most stone fruit, storage life is short so they should be eaten or processed within a few days of harvest (late July to early August).
The Manchurian apricot grows vigorously with minimal need for water or fertilizer. The tree is self-fertile but will yield better harvests with cross-pollination. This variety originates from northeast China and southeast Russia.
