#1 = a one gallon pot size.

Sweet Grass, Hierochloe odorata: Known for its sweet-smelling leaves, Sweet Grass is a perennial that is used by indigenous peoples in North America. Commonly braided after being harvested as burned as ‘smudge.’ Sweet Grass does best in rich, moist soil and requires a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight a day. Mature Size: 1-2′ tall, spreading. Zone 3

Kinnikinnick (Bearberry), Arctostaphylos uva-ursi: Though they can be eaten raw, Kinnikinnick (also known as Bearberry) berries are dry and almost flavourless. However, cooked bearberries are delightful, as the cooking process brings out their sweetness. Excellent for making jams and preserves, as well as beverage flavouring. Mature Size: 3-6″ tall, spreading. Zone 2.

SagebrushArtemisia tridentata: Native to western and central North America. Narrow, evergreen, lance like silver-grey, aromatic foliage, accents inflorescence panicles of yellow disc-shaped blooms along stems in late summer. Gnarled growing habit. Tolerates rocky soils, drought and flooding. Medicinal properties. Mature Size: 3-5′ tall x 3-4′ wide. Zone 4.

Wolf Willow, Elaeagnus commutata: Native shrub to the Prairies. Silver foliage on rust colored stems. Yellow spring blooms with a sweet, musky fragrance mature to silver ornamental fruit. Excellent for bank stabilization or landscape reclamation. Prefers a well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established.

Dwarf Cedar, Thuja occidentalis ‘Little Giant’: Dwarf, compact, slow-growing globe of dense, soft, bright green foliage year-round. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established. Use as contrast, low hedge, border or accent plant.

Native Fern, Matteuccia struthiopteris: An upright fern with deep green fronds that will form a wide-spreading patch. The fronds are bright green in color, and become bronze-gold in the Fall. The unfurled part of the fern is edible though they must be properly cooked; the fronds are cinnamon brown. Best in partial sun to full shade. Requires soil that is well-drained, and may go dormant if the soil gets too dry. Transplant when the fern is dormant during Spring/Fall.
