Native to the prairies, Rocky Mountain Sand Cherries produce medium-sized black cherries, which are good for fresh eating and great for making wine, jams or preserves. In addition to the fruit the Rocky Mountain Sand Cherry produces, it is also very showy in the spring with its abundant white blooms, and in the fall when the foliage turns orange-red. Suited for hedges or interior wind breaks. Fruit is ready to harvest mid-August.

Prefers well-drained soil. It is considered to be drought-tolerant making it an ideal choice for xeriscaping.

Requires either a second Rocky Mountain Sand Cherry or a Western Sand Cherry for cross pollination.
