Known for excellent hardiness, Nelson is a late-blooming saskatoon variety that produces berries with a reduced number of seeds compared to other saskatoons.  Berries average 13mm in diameter. Nelson also have some resistance to juniper rust, which sets it apart.

The shrub will grow to be about 12-14 ft tall at maturity, and a spread of 8-10 ft. It tends to grow at a medium rate. Can produce fruit with one plant, but will produce higher yields with a second plant for cross-pollination. Prefers a well-drained, sandy loam.
