A variety that was introduced by the South Crop Diversification Centre in Brooks, AB. The tree is a hybrid between the Japanese Plum and American Plum, and is hardy to Zone 2 – Zone 3. It is very cold-resistant and starts to flower in Mid-May, with harvest in Mid-August.
The Brookred plums are medium in size and have a dusky pink-red skin, with golden interior. The texture is firm but still juicy. It is a freestone so it great to be used for cooking, baking, and of course to be eaten fresh.
Requires a second plum for cross-pollination. Recommended: Canadian plum, Tecumseh, Toka, Pembina.
