The Payhonin National Healing Forest conservation project at Prairie Gardens offers volunteers a truly immersive experience in land stewardship, ecological restoration, and community healing.

Seasonal Activities
Volunteers can participate in hands-on conservation efforts across the seasons:

  • Spring & Fall Tree Planting: Help reforest native species and expand the healing canopy.

  • Trail Stewardship: Maintain walking paths, install interpretive signage, and support accessibility.

  • Prairie Plant Restoration: Remove invasives, sow native seeds, and monitor plant health.

Citizen Science & Education

  • Butterfly & Bird Inventories: Assist with species counts and habitat observations.

  • Native Seed Collection: Gather and sort seeds for future restoration efforts.

  • Educational Workshops: Learn about Indigenous land relationships, prairie ecology, and regenerative farming.
