Clematis viticella ‘Purpurea Plena’
Pot size #1
Despite its name, Purpurea Plena Elegans is not a particularly purple clematis, but rather more of a plum or deep rose. Blossoms are double – making it fairly unique in appearance – and average two inches in diameter or so. The vine itself is vigorous and in pruning group C.
Clematis in pruning group C bloom on wood grown (and hardened) over the course of the season. Traditionally, during dormancy, they should be pruned hard, leaving only three pairs of leaves per stem. However, clematis in group C will still bloom even when not pruned back, so can be left if a more aggressive vine spread is desired.
Free flowering variety blooming from late June through August.
Mature Size: 9-12′ tall x wide (spread is variable)
