Prunus x kerrasis ‘Romeo’
Pot size #1, #2, #5, #7, #10, #15
The Romeo Cherry is a hybrid variety that was developed at the University of Saskatchewan, as apart of the Romance series of dwarf sour cherry varieties. It has cherries that are dark red, or black. The medium-sized cherries are very flavorful and are most suited for fresh eating, processing, or make into juice. Aside from its edible qualities it also makes a great accent or landscape tree.
The tree has white flowers before they bloom into cherries. The growth rate is medium. The Romeo tree will grow to be about 12 ft in height, and a spread of 6ft. It has low canopy, so it is suitable for planting under power lines. It is a self-pollinating variety, so it doesn’t require a second plant nearby. It is not particular to a soil type or pH. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but does not tolerate standing water.
