The Lingonberry is a small shrub that is commonly grown for its edible qualities, though it does have ornamental merits. This low and dense evergreen with form a dense thicket; small white flowers in the Spring, and then in late Summer will have clusters of bright red red berries that have a distinct tart flavor. Lingonberries are excellent for groundcover, borders, massing, and the berries are great for fresh eating, cooking, baking, preserves, and juice-making.
The variety is native to North America. This shrub grows at a medium rate, self-pollinating, and does best in sandy acidic soil. Best to plant in a sheltered location, and quite intolerant of urban pollination.
