The Bleeding Heart is an herbaceous perennial and has a mounded form. The name is a nod to the flowers that are heart-shaped and dangle from the stems. The White Bleeding Heart (Alba) variety has nodding delicate flowers that are white heart-shaped and will bloom from late spring to early summer. The leaves are ferny shaped and compound, with a grayish green color. The Bleeding Heart is self-seeding. It is recommended for mass planting, rock gardens, border edging, and container planting.
The White Bleeding Heart will grow to be about 32 inches tall at maturity, with a spacing of 30 inches. When grown in masses individual plants should be spaced approximately 15 inches apart. The foliage of this plant tends to remain low to the ground and dense. It grows at a slow rate, but does tend to go dormant in summer.
