The Old Fashioned Bleeding Heart will grow to be about 35 inches tall at maturity, with a spread of 35 inches. When grown in masses individual plants should be spaced approximately 24 inches apart. The foliage of this plant tends to remain low to the ground and dense. It grows at a slow rate, but does tend to go dormant in summer. The bleeding heart prefers average to moist conditions, and shouldn’t be allowed to dry out. It is not specific to soil pH, but grows best in rich soil.
