Malus x ‘Liberty’
Pot size #7 (6-7′)
Developed in upstate New York, Liberty was released in 1980 and is known for its super disease resistance such as apple scab. The apples are a McIntosh-type, which isn’t a surprise as McIntosh is one of its grandparents. Expect fruit to have red crisp skin, and moderately juicy white flesh.
With well-balanced flavour, Liberty is best-suited for fresh eating and making cider, though it will keep well up to 4 months in cold storage. Requires a different apple within 150′ for cross-pollination. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil.
Mature Size: 15-20′ tall by 15-20′ wide
Note: requires a sheltered location and is not recommended for the prairies!! Zone 4 hardiness.
