Blanket flowers are great to use in your garden, as a border, and is known for its very long season of bloom. They form a low mound of leaves, and have upright stems that hold up large daisy-shaped flowers. The name “Blanket Flower” comes from the fact that they blanketed the North American prairies with blooms. This variety of blanket flower “Spintop Copper Sun”, is a compact selection and part of the Spintop series. The plant is uniform and well branched. Produces tons of blooms that have a unique fluted copper-orange petals that have yellow tips. Will start blooming in late Spring and continue through into Fall. This variety has an exceptionally long bloom time.
Blanket flowers are compact and free-flowering. They are often short-lived perennials. Rich of nectar, the flowers are great attractors for hummingbirds and butterflies. Blooming from early Summer into fall, the daisy-like flowers will cover the compact grayish green mound. The blanket flower requires little care once established. Ideal for containers, beds, and borders.
Prefers soil that is dry and well-drained. Will be drought tolerant once established. Heat tolerant and actually prefers poor soil (neutral or alkaline soil), over soil that is too rich or heavy clay. Will get to a height of 8-12 inches and a spread of 12-16 inches, and has a medium growth rate.
