A willow tree that is fast-growing and has an aggressive root system, so it is best planted in areas away from buildings, so will do best in large and open areas. The tree is large sized, with a rounded canopy, and low branched. The bark is furrowed and has green glossy foliage, that will turn yellow in the Fall. Neither the flowers not the fruit are ornamentally significant. Best used as a shade tree, for screening, or as a windbreak.

Tolerates alkaline soils. Gets to be heights of 30 – 36 ft, and a spread of 30 – 36 ft. It is considered to be drought-tolerant. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and thrives in inner city environments.
