Malus ‘September Ruby’
Pot size #5, #7 #10
Known as the King of the North, which is due to it being one of the hardiest apples. The September Ruby tree is an extremely hardy tree and no amount of frost can kill it. It is also moderately resistant to fire blight. It is annually productive and a vigorous grower with high yields. The apples are tart with a dark red skin a light green base. The apples get to be able 5-7 cm in size and have a greenish white flesh. Harvest ready early Fall.
Its also one of our personal all-time favourites on the farm! Fruit is sweet with a tart edge, has an excellent crunch to every bite, and could not be more refreshing to enjoy on a crisp fall day. Excellent for fresh eating, September Ruby also makes for excellent pies and is truly spectacular for juicing. Added to which, apples will keep 3+ months in cold storage, so you don’t have to eat them all right away (which would be a tall task as this apple is extremely productive, often setting over 300+ apples). It’s also one of our preferred apples for making caramel and candied apples in the fall.
Requires another apple nearby for cross-pollination. Prefers a moist and well-drained soil.
