Also known as small-leaved lime, or small-leaved linden. A large, oval to pyramidal tree form. The foliage of the tree is dense, heart-shaped, and turns yellow in the fall. There are clusters of small yellow blooms that are lightly scented, and will attract bees in late spring. The bark is smooth and grayish with vertical ridges and horizontal fissures. In comparison to the Tilia americana the little leaf linden has smaller leaves and not as coarse in texture.
Gets to a height of about 30 ft and a spread of 26 ft. Tolerates clay soil. Prefers soil that is deep and moist. Tolerates a variety of soil types and light shade.
