What’s in your basket?
Kohlrabi is new this week
Kohlrabi is a round heavy tentacled cabbage-turnip-radish – that looks like it should grow underground like a root, but actually grows in the sun on top of the soil. It has a crunchy texture like a water chestnut and a fresh mellow green flavour. You can cook the leaves like cabbage – and eat the peeled green bulb raw in coleslaw or make easy fridge pickles out of them – like the Restaurant Widow does.
Kohlrabi might be a little oddball and freaky-looking – but it’s ok to be different, little guy, they’ll totally love you once they get to know you, I promise.
Meet all your vegetables on Thursday, July 31 between 5 and 7 pm at RGE RD – 123 St & 106 Ave – or this Sunday, Aug 3 at the farm from noon to 6 pm. BTW – that’s smack-dab in the middle of the Fairy Berry Festival. Lucky you get in free with your annual farm pass!
