Malus ‘Combination’
Pot size #7
Combination apples have multiple varieties of apple grafted onto a single tree. This means that one tree will produce 4 different kinds of apples (each main branch produces a different kind of apple) and that it will pollinate itself! In previous years, this combination type has included the following varieties:
Hardi-Mac: Cold-hardy Macintosh cultivar first found in Calgary, Alberta. Medium-sized, red apple with crisp, juicy white flesh. Good for fresh eating and cooking with fair storage qualities.
Norkent: Green with red streaks. Good eating fresh, baking and storage qualities. Medium-large, hardy, crisp, juicy, late summer apple tastes similar to Golden Delicious.
Goodland: Large, light green apple with a red blush. Crisp, late summer apple for eating fresh, cooking and can be stored for up to 4 months.
September Ruby: The hardiest apple tree for the north (zone 1). A large, sweet, bright red, fall apple excellent for fresh eating and juicing with good storage qualities.
Please note: varieties included vary year to year and may be different than what is listed above.
Requires a moist, well-drained soil. Great for the backyard with a small amount of space because you do not require a second apple tree for cross-pollination.
